Fifth Annual Vegan Chili Cook-Off!

Chili Cook Off On September 6, 2008 the Alliance for Animals will hold its 5th Annual Vegan Chili Cook-off! The event will take place at the newly build Goodman Community Center, 149 Waubesa Street. in Madison. Prizes will be awarded for the best chilis, so enter your favorite for a chance to win! Cook-off contestants get in free.

We also need judges, so contact us if you'd like to participate. Cook-off rules and times/admission prices are posted below. If you are planning on going to Fighting Bob Fest, this is a perfect ending to your day. Bring the kids!

What: Vegan Chili Cook-Off
When: Saturday, September 6, 2008
Where: Goodman Community Center (1496 Waubesa Street, Madison)
Time: 5:30 - 8:00 pm (Chili tasting begins at 5:30 pm; Judging at 6:30 pm.)
How much: $8 for adults, $6 for students, and $3 for kids under 8
Chili Entrants: see below for our rules (don't be scared--it's simply information needed to enter)!

1. Chili must be cooked on-site at the Atwood Community Center.

2. Chili must be VEGAN. Vegan means no animal products whatsoever. This includes cheese, eggs, honey, milk, meat, and any other animal product or byproduct.

3. All chili must be accompanied by an ingredient list (a 3x5 note card will suffice).

4. The chili you serve to the judges will be the chili you serve to the public for tasting.

5. Each contestant will provide all ingredients, utensils, and accessories necessary to cook their chili, including a large cooking pot for the chili. Each contestant shall also bring a crockpot/hot-holding device so that the chili can stay at the correct temperature while being served (if you do not have such a device, let us know and we'll try to locate one for you). The Goodman Community Center will provide water/sink and an industrial cook stove.

6. Minimum amount of chili prepared should be 2 gallons.

7. Cooking can begin on site at 1:30 pm; however, we may need to stagger some chefs so that the facilities are available to all. Public tasting will begin at 5:30 pm and judging will be at 6:30 pm.

8. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: People's Choice (one prize) and Judges' Choice (1st and 2nd places).

9. Contestants must pre-register in order to enter contest. Email/call the Alliance to enter at alliance@allanimals.org or 608-257-6333.

10. Contestants are encouraged, but not required, to name their chili (be creative!).
