Coyote hunter Kurt Rausch, who has been found guilty of the mistreatment of animals for the killing of a mastiff named Gary (he also killed a husky mix named Franny, but was not found guilty – she resembled a coyote) while hunting coyotes, will be sentenced on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 9:00 am.

Rausch, while wearing a bright head-lamp, used a calling device to call coyotes. Veterinarian, Deanna Clark was taking her four dogs for a walk – they started to walk towards the sound. When he saw two of the dogs, who were wearing reflective vests, he shot them both. One died right away and the other died a couple of days later. Initially, Rausch was charged with a felony, but it was reduced to a misdemeanor.
